Glass Corner Sliding Doors deliver versatile design
When an architect client chooses ODC sliding doors for their own home extension we expect exacting design and perhaps something different from the usual brief. We love the light-filled, side return extension Dan Jones of Civic Architecture has designed for his London semi. It’s an open plan garden room designed to catch the morning light filtering between neighbouring houses and surrounding mature trees. Featured recently in the RIBA Journal, Dan explains that his full height glazed design was motivated by seeing ‘an oasis of useful winter sun outside not being used; just waiting to be let in.’
Eight panel configuration with opening corner
Dan’s kitchen-dining extension showcases the versatility of our systems. Not only is every panel a different width, the installation has an asymmetrical configuration, with three panels on one return and five on the other. The design maximises the expanse of glass with aesthetically pleasing frame positioning. The two sliding sections meet at an open corner, an increasingly popular specification for garden extensions, and a feature Dan has used to great effect in this relatively small space. At this point the glass walls glide back, the ceiling appears to float and the inviting seating area is completely open to the sunny patio.
Our client selected our slimline SL320 sliding system which has the narrowest frames of all our sliding doors; they deliver a contemporary, minimal look, complementing the extension’s polished concrete floor and cherry wood wall cladding. The high performance ODC SL320 glass doors are specified with colour-matched handles and glide in either direction on three stainless steel flush tracks. The full height glass panels and matching fixed window all have a solar control coating to protect interior furnishings.
Anthracite Grey: a contemporary look
The sliding system has powder-coated frames in an Anthracite Grey matt finish. Like all our standard colour coatings, this finish is extremely low maintenance and easy to clean.
