Glass Corners and Sliding Doors
On the edge of a traditional Berkshire village, just minutes from the M4, is a glamorous and confident contemporary home. Its flat roofs, minimalist box construction, massive stone end wall and second storey cedar and aluminium-clad penthouse bring exciting architectural diversity to a neighbourhood of gabled Edwardian houses and Victorian red brick cottages.
Architectural glazing dominates every aspect of the design, from the double height glass wall entrance, glass to glass corner windows and, on every floor, full height sliding glass doors. Dining and living spaces, bedrooms, gym, internal pool room – all have views out to a leafy woodland setting that’s much sought-after in this county. Bespoke fixed windows open up unexpected aspects and light – this is a house that demands to be seen.
Glass Wall Entrance
The home is approached by a statement double height glass entrance with an aluminium ODC External Door. ODC modular curtain walling, made off-site and suitable for any non-load bearing wall, creates a spectacular focal point for its contemporary facade.
ODC300 Sliding Doors
This project has a grand total of six ODC300 sliding systems installed, providing full height glass, views and light to the dining-kitchen area, the pool room, home gym and summer house as well as to bedrooms and bathroom on the upper floors. The ODC300 lifts and slides open effortlessly on steel tracks and the handle mechanism means they can be fixed in any chosen position for ventilation. It’s a great option when there are children and pets around. It can also be locked with a ventilation gap of just a few millimetres – a popular security feature.
Glass to Glass Corner Windows
Drawing the eye, windows with glass to glass corners deliver a minimalist, contemporary look. Not only do they have the external wow factor, their frameless inline joints mean that from the inside, these rooms have near invisible corner glazing – absolutely nothing between you and the light.
Fixed Windows
Picture windows open up internal walls and create long sightlines through the house. Without an opening element, the frames are ultra-thin and the panes over-sized. Here the architect has specified a range of bespoke large fixed windows (often over 2000mm in height) and, like the sliding doors and windows, they were manufactured at our Poole facility.
Rooflights
The two fixed frameless rooflights in this project add another dimension to the home’s interior. The rooflight above the pool is over 3 metres in length, bathing the water in light or offering a view of the night sky. A second rooflight measuring 3 metres in length sits high above the entrance hall, adding to its atrium ambiance.
Glass Garden Room
Across the lawn is a sleek, inviting garden room with matching full height glazing and frames with the same weather-resilient powder-coated finishes. Architect-designed and constructed as part of the project, it’s an example of a very cost-effective way to gain additional purpose-built space.
