This summer we popped back to Wimborne to join our clients for a chat on the sunny patio of their architect-designed single storey home. Situated on a corner of the farm they once worked, the accessible same level property has a garden overlooking ponies grazing in adjacent fields. They’re delighted with their bifolds – all five sets of doors – and we think they are a great success too, filling their home with light and views, and making retirement life a real pleasure.
“We went to the Poole showroom to have a look at what ODC could offer. We liked the quality that we saw and we liked what they could offer us. We had a few requirements and a visit to the showroom ticked all those boxes.
We needed security and to know that once those doors are closed, they are locked. We didn’t want to worry about lots of different keys when we go out.
We chose bifolds from a safety point of view because we were worried about children running into big glass sliding doors. We thought we would have more versatility with bifolds too.
We were particularly interested in bifolds with handles which were not horizontal, which would impair our view.
We were offered other doors through our main contractor which we declined because they couldn’t tick all those boxes.
Our main contractor had used ODC before on a bigger project and they were very happy with the service and the way the doors had been installed. And we were happy to know that the main contractor and OCD were going to be compatible.
We saw ODC come and measure up. We could see how careful they were and the main contractor was happy too. They came back and checked all the measurements again. We liked that ODC installed the doors, not our contractor because who’s going to be responsible if they don’t work?
We are really pleased with the doors. Even though my husband’s got rheumatoid arthritis and problems with balance he can open and close the doors without any problem whatsoever.”
The project has folding doors in different configurations, all made to measure. The living room has two sets of two panel folding doors either side of the feature chimney and a sweep of three panel folding sliding doors to open this room out on sunny days. The sunroom has two walls of glass created by five and three panel concertina folding doors.
ODC offers a range of folding door options with different profiles and specifications. Our large ODC121 bifold doors are robust, full height aluminium folding systems with large panel sizes. This system offers an easy access traffic door and rebated double weather seals. The glass doors open outwards on single flush tracks, providing easy and instant access to all aspects of the large patio area.
As required by our clients, they have internal handles only, flat to the door frames for a sleek and contemporary look. Latch locks on all systems are automatic so that when closed from the inside, the doors are secure.
No project is the same, and our designers work hard to understand the priorities and needs of individual families. Our clients made a choice to suit their family lifestyle, but sliding doors could have been an option for this project. Read more about bifolds vs sliding doors here.
The design and details matter when it comes to architectural glazing; get it right and we know it will make a difference and that you’ll be appreciating your aluminium doors and windows for many years to come!
