MINIMAL FRAME SLIDING DOORS FOR CAPTIVATING VIEWS

Hidden away on an idyllic private estate in the Welsh hills, surrounded by woodland and overlooking its own lake, this luxurious detached house has been designed to meet the owners’ exacting requirements – and has glazing to make the most of its glorious location. 

An elevated wrap-around terrace is accessed by four sets of large flush floor SL800 sliding doors with minimal frames. Two sides of the living area can be opened up to create a wonderful indoor/outdoor space. The minimal frame sliding doors are extended with fixed floor to ceiling window sections to create glass walls which maximise the view. 

The central set of SL800 sliding doors, an impressive 10 metres wide, create a seamless connection between the atrium kitchen and covered outdoor dining area. With bi-directional opening, they give perfect access to a covered outdoor area to die for – it includes built-in ceiling heaters, log burner, barbeque and TV. It’s the heart of the home, used all year round to enjoy the changing seasons and abundant wildlife. 

At the rear of the house, ODC300 sliding doors create an airy, light environment for a spacious home gym and pool room – like the SL800, they have exceptional weather performance – important reassurance for exposed locations like this! 

Six sections of gable curtain walling with integrated opening windows for first floor rooms means this house has mesmerising landscape views in all directions. A central first floor mezzanine has a dramatic fixed triple rooflight window – offering a spectacular outlook and snug comfort for wild and windy days. 

In the hallway and stairwell, bespoke fixed rooflights capture sky and light at all angles.  

To complement all the sliding systems, glass walls and rooflights, matching aluminium windows ensure ground floor views extend from front to back and allow light to flow throughout the interior. 

And the project wasn’t without its challenges. With access via a long and extremely narrow lane, careful consideration had to be given to the vehicles chosen to deliver these huge glass structures to site. Suffice to say, our fitters did an amazing job squeezing through the lanes and completed a successful and professional installation.
