Sliding doors with balcony glass ensures views
This contemporary stone and render house really makes the most of its fantastic south-facing views. Its unique design comprises three rectangular structures, each angled to frame a different aspect of the rolling Dorset landscape beyond.
Every room has bespoke glazing to capture the world outside, from sliding doors with glass balconies for the bedrooms on the upper level to a range of fixed and opening windows in bespoke sizes to suit the orientation of lower floor living spaces.
The glazed entrance
Above the contemporary front door and fixed glazed side panel is an apex of glass soaring to the building’s eaves. The bespoke shaped window sections, are angled to invite light and perspectives into and through the building.
Sliding doors with balconies for bedrooms
Large ODC 300 sliding door systems offer views for the main bedrooms, with invisible frameless glass balustrades fitted to creat a perfect balcony space. They deliver uninterrupted views to the woods and fields, to be enjoyed all year round. These are four panel systems, configured to have two opening and two fixed panels, with wide openings but equally, partial opening options for excellent protection against prevailing winds and weather.
Sliding doors designed to capture views
The open plan kitchen-diner has a large ODC 300+ sliding door system with two sets of panels meeting at a corner. It’s an effective way to extend the view and maximise the aspect offered by this home’s unique structure. The living room enjoys similar huge views with two panel system; the addition of a fixed full height panel at right angles gives just a little more perspective.
The ODC 300+ Patio system is a very robust and durable system, ideal for this fairly exposed hillside location. It uses tough stainless steel wheels and rails for ease of operation, and the sliding door is lifted slightly before opening or closing. This reduces friction and makes the operation smooth and effortless. In the closed position, the door is lowered onto the track, providing additional weather resistance.
Solar control coatings on these large panes protect the interior and its vibrant contemporary furnishings from sun fade.
Fixed and opening windows
This house opens up to the landscape at every point. A transition section between two of the main structures is filled by a long fixed window, offering yet another slice of view as you move through the house from one area to another.
ODC 75si casement windows have been specified in a variety of opening configurations to suit each room, including top hung, side hung, and tilt and turn. Whatever the opening design, they are all high performance aluminium windows with the same frame profile and finish and are fitted with friction stays for easy operation.
Dorset architect
We were delighted to collaborate on this project with NDM Architects, a local Dorset practice and well-known to ODC for their innovative, sustainable architectural solutions and we’re proud to see how ODC architectural glazing is core to realising their unique and successful design.
George Edmonds, architect at NDM said, ‘The striking black framed glazing helps to contrast against the white render and neutral tones of the stone, creating a bold, contemporary object in the landscape. Our clients were blown away with the advice and service from ODC and couldn’t be happier with the finished product.’
