A beach front site is a dream location for a new home, but the vision for this contemporary house was not without its challenges for both architect and glazing designers. Panoramic, uninterrupted sea views required customised glazing with superb thermal efficiency to withstand year-round exposure to the elements.

Exceptional weather performance

All sea-facing openings have triple glazed units with marine grade coatings for their aluminium frames to ensure longevity and suit this exceptional location. The thicker powder coating is tough enough to withstand strong summer UV reflection, winter storms and wind-blown sands from the beach just metres away.

Our technical team specified the robust, high perfomance ODC300+ sliding system to achieve the thermal goals for the building with a flush track design to deliver the required water tightness.

Up and Over rooflight for stunning home office

On the top floor is a home office with panoramic views, captured by a custom-made up-and-over rooflight. Specifications for  weather detailing and sealing on this was critical; a stepped-edge design ensures a correct overlap on the glass join to prevent water ingress.

On the opposite elevation a full-height sliding window with glass-to-glass corner provides a spectacular outlook to the sea and horizon.

Architect Collaboration for bespoke glazing package

Close collaboration between ODC Glass technical team and RX Architects was crucial to the success of this project. RXA deliver innovative projects inspired by the Rye Bay coastline, and having provided us with the CAD drawings of all structural openings for this exciting new home, the ODC team designed unique systems to integrate with their structure.
